Our Constitution
1. Name
The name of the Group shall be: ‘325 Troop Independent Marine Cadets’
2. Aims
The aims of the Group shall be to:
The aims and values of 325 Troop Independent Marine Cadets is centred around the individual development of each member of our organisation. Through a form of high standard discipline and intense learning and development our aim is to support the young people locally to apply themselves as model citizens within our community. Our values are underpinned by these following 4 strands for success:
Excellence- “Strive to do better”
Integrity- “Tell the truth”
Self Discipline- “Resist the easy option”
Humility – “Respect the rights, diversity and contribution of others”
We aim to foster a learning environment with a strong connection to the British Royal Marines and other services that will allow each cadet to learn and develop in their own way to become strong mentally and physically, more independent in the openness and more aware of their own abilities and skills as well as of those around them.
Our training & development programmes are challenging and rewarding to allow each child to make their own progress.
The training & Development plans will be split into differentiated levels for a long and contrasting learning experience so that no cadet feels bored and not challenged but equally so no cadet feels it is too hard and unachievable to them. The topics we will cover are as follows:
Teamwork
Leadership
Confidence building
Self esteem
Service in the community
First aid
Physical training and mental endurance
Water craft
Cooking
Adventure Training
3. Objectives
In order to achieve its aims the Group will lead weekly training evenings to deliver skill lessons that focus on the syllabus. In addition the group will have training weekends and week long camps to teach, review and adapt the learning to allow all cadets to adapt and progress forward.
4. Membership
a) Membership of the Group shall be open to any child or young person aged 10-18 years old (Active recruitment up to 16 years old). Young people who remain with the group at 18 will be given the chance to transfer to an adult member and become an instructor. Adult instructors shall also become members of the group as an ‘adult instructor’ to deliver the training of the syllabus as detail above and shall be managed by the Executive Staff.
b) Membership shall be available to anyone without regard to gender, race, nationality, disability, sexual preference, religion or belief.
c) The membership of any member may be terminated for good reason by the Executive Staff but the member has a right to be heard by the Executive Staff before a final decision is made.
d) The Group Executive Staff will be governed by the Executive Chair, Vice Chair, one staff member and up to 2 parent members*. Parent members shall not hold the power to vote, however, their views prior to a vote will be taken into consideration.
*This may also be a parent of a former cadet (as an independent body)
e) If a parent on the Executive staff joins the troop as a full ‘Staff member’ then they will forfeit their position on the Executive staff, unless the ‘staff member’ position is available, in which case, with the mutual agreement of both Chair and Vice Chair, the position is offered. Upon acceptance, a new parent member would be sought.
5. Management
a) The Group shall be managed by the Executive Chair and supported by the Vice Chair.
b) The Members of the Executive Staff shall be: the Executive Chair who shall administer Admin, the Vice chair who shall administer Finance.
c) The Executive Staff shall meet at least 6 times a year.
d) The Executive Chair shall chair all meetings of the Group. In the absence of the Executive Chair, the Vice Chair will assume this responsibility.
e) Voting at Executive Staff meetings shall be by show of hands. If there is a tied vote then the Executive Chair shall have the final vote.
f) Any adult member who fails to work by the rules of the group and by this constitution may be given warning of their position and may be removed from the organisation if they breach more than three times or if they fail safeguarding procedures.
g) The Executive Staff may appoint another member of the Group as Executive Staff to fill a vacancy provided the maximum number is not exceeded.
6. Duties and Appointment of the Executive Officers
a) The duties of the Executive Chair is to:
Jointly supervise the financial affairs of the Group
Chair meetings of the Executive Staff and the Group
Represent the Group at functions/meetings that the Group has been invited to
Act as spokesperson for the Group when necessary
Provide strategic leadership and overall management of the group
Uphold the running of the group to its fullest
Deliver lessons to the cadets
Act as co-correspondence for all parents of the group
Manage the cloud storage platform

b) The duties of the Vice Chair are to:
Jointly supervise the financial affairs of the Group
Keep proper accounts that show all monies collected and paid out by the Group
Act as co-correspondence for all parents of the group
Support the Executive Chair with all admin aspects
Liaise with the Executive Chair to deliver the officers duties
Take minutes at the group meetings are circulate to all group members after
Prepare financial reports on a monthly basis to inform parents who are behind with subscriptions and payments
Support the Executive Chair with all other duties required upon progression but only in agreement with the Executive Chair

7. Finance
a) Any money obtained by the Group shall be used only for the Group
b) Any bank accounts opened for the group shall belong to the Group
c) Account signatures shall be two signatures of the Executive Staff as listed below:

8. Alterations to the Constitution
Any changes to this Constitution must be agreed by at least two members of the Executive Staff and sent out for consultation to all group members (adults only) for 7 days before being signed off and agreed.
9. Dissolution
The Group may be wound up at any time if agreed by two-thirds of all members and by vote. In the event of winding up, any assets remaining after all debts have been paid shall be given to charity.
This Constitution was adopted at the forming of 325 Troop Independent Marine Cadets on 1st February 2025
